吉祥是人类最早形成的价值观念,也是从古到今长久不衰的人生最关注的话题。人们为了寄托对美好生活的向往和寄托,借“吉祥”之意创造出了大量的艺术造型、图案纹样,如建筑、陶艺、雕刻、服饰等等中异彩纷呈的吉祥图案,构成了一个五彩斑斓的象征符号的百花园。由于有着相似的自然与人文条件,中国新疆和中亚的民间吉祥图案具有许多共同的审美特性。
