树木盆景造型,必须要进行取舍裁剪(锯、凿、剜、剪),因而,或多或少会给树桩留下一些伤面。而暴露着的伤口,一是会造成树液大量流失(特别是榆树、苏铁和松树类等多浆多脂品种),致使桩头枝头干枯难以萌发成活;二是容易引起感染,致组织坏死,伤口难以愈合。所以必须采取措施,对创伤面进行消毒和密封。蜡封是有效方法之一。但是,那种用燃烧蜡烛,让熔化的蜡液滴封创面的作法是不可取的,这样做费工费时,速度慢。且封闭质量不好,更何况有些创面(如枝、干侧面和向下的创面)根本无法滴封。
