作为早期主要海外英语全译本之一,20世纪初出现的赖发洛《论语》英译本迄今未见研究。本文通过文本细读发现,译者运用包括以字词对应、语序一致为主导的多种具体翻译方法,贯彻“字词对应”为基础的、倾向直译的翻译策略,较为有效地诠释“真实翻译”的精髓;同时,本文结合翻译目的论的主要思想,对该译本存在的问题加以分类梳理和剖析,为当今中华典籍外译提供些许借鉴和思考。
As one of the early major overseas versions of English, no English translation of Lai Fenglu’s Analects of Confucius appeared in the early 20th century. Through the careful reading of the text, the translator finds that the translator’s strategy of translation, which is based on the “word correspondence” and tends to literal translation, uses a variety of specific translation methods that are led by word correspondence and word order consistency, At the same time, combined with the main idea of translational teleology, this thesis classifies and analyzes the problems existing in the translation, providing some references and thoughts for the translation of Chinese classics today.
