Jia Pingwa’s novels The Elders adopt a great deal of magical realism and have the similarities and differences to Marquez’s one hundred years of loneliness. Jia Pingwa made a rather successful exploration of the magical realism in China. However, due to the different cultural contexts between China and the West, the Chinese traditional Buddhism and Taoism advocated by Jia Pingwa are different from the Christian values that Marquez believes in humanitarianism. How to create a literary perspective that can not only draw lessons from western trendy cultural ideas but also unique Chinese characteristics in the convergence and difference of Chinese and Western cultural contexts is a topic that deserves further discussion. In 1984, ”One Hundred Years of Solitude" was translated into Chinese
