头孢羟氨苄是一种半合成口服有活性的头孢菌素类广谱抗菌药,对G~+和G~-细菌感染均有杀菌作用。体外研究显示,头孢羟氨苄对β-溶血性链球菌、葡萄球菌(包括凝固酶阳性、凝固酶阴性和产生青霉素酶的菌株)、肺炎链球菌、大肠杆菌、变形杆菌及克雷白杆菌等均有效。与其他口服头孢菌素相比,头孢羟氨苄对可产生青霉素酶的细菌亦有强大的作用。
