伊里亚·叶菲莫维奇·列宾是俄罗斯最著名的画家之一,伟大的现实主义画家,巡回览画派重要代表人物。早年在彼得堡美术学院学习。列宾的绘画深受老师克里姆斯科伊的影响,他的作品具有民族性和思想性。在老师的影响下列宾接受了当时俄罗斯民主的思想,与时代相适应,给俄罗斯画坛带来了一股新鲜的风潮。列宾的创作高峰时期的作品,如《伏尔加纤夫》、《宣传者被捕》、《意外归来》、《查波罗什人复信土耳其苏丹》及《托尔斯泰》等都是无不体现其现实主义的特色。列宾的绘画作品之所以伟大就是因为他的作品中充满了对现实的思考,他赋予了绘画灵魂。由于其绘画特色,列宾在俄罗斯影响力也是十分深远的,他能表现人民的贫穷和痛苦以及对美好生活的渴望,契合了人民的需求,适应了时代的潮流。在教育上,他坚持欧洲古典美术教育教法,严格要求学生,产生了一大批有实力的画家。列宾的教育方法被列宾美院延用至今。
