OBJECTIVE: To analyze the level of activation of immune abnormalities in AIDS patients in China and its correlation with CD4 + T cell count and disease progression, and to explore the role of abnormal immune activation in the pathogenesis of HIV / AIDS. Methods: Correlation analysis was performed between 287 HIV / AIDS patients without any treatment and with CD4 + T cell count, immune activation markers and plasma viral load. Results: The levels of immune abnormalities in HIV / AIDS patients at different stages of disease progression were significantly different. As the disease progressed, the activation level of immune abnormalities increased significantly. There was a significant negative correlation between CD4 + T cell count and immune abnormality activation markers in peripheral blood. Conclusion: The activation of immune system induced by HIV infection may be one of the mechanisms leading to the gradual decrease of CD4 + T cell count and disease progression.
