Introduction It was suggested that dietary fiber intake may be an important factor in chronic diseases in Western societies. Due to the lack of information on the fiber content of various foods, there are only a few epidemiological reports on this issue so far. A prospective study of 337 middle-aged men in London found that the intake of large amounts of cereal fiber was associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), while the intake of dietary fiber was negatively correlated with cancer, especially colon cancer. However, the results of the case-control study are not the same. There is no report on the relationship between dietary fiber intake and all-cause mortality. This article reports on Dutch middle-aged men’s dietary fiber intake and follow-up of 10 years of CHD, cancer and all causes of death related
