The Ministry of Information Industry was set up according to the State Council Institutional Reform Plan and the “Notice of the State Council on Institutional Establishment” (Guo Fa [1998] No. 5) approved by the first session of the Ninth National People’s Congress. The Ministry of Information Industry is a department of the State Council that supervises the manufacturing of the national electronic information products, telecommunications and software industries and the promotion of informationization of the national economy and social services.
