我们主要栖息在海拔300-1900米的树林中,也到村落附近的树丛活动。在树干上以多种娴熟动作寻找、啄食树皮缝中的昆虫及卵。普通,是科属中的一种,俗称蓝大胆。中等体型(13厘米),似麻雀般大的小鸟。常见于中国大部分地区的落叶林区。普通色彩优雅,上体石板蓝色,贯眼纹黑色,翅黑;中央尾羽蓝灰色;其余尾羽黑色,外侧两枚具白斑。下体白色,两胁和尾下栗红色,雌鸟下体栗红色浅淡。
