Since the founding of the People’s Republic, the province vigorously carried out tree planting and afforestation, strengthened secondary forest tending and transformation, expanded forest resources, strictly controlled the amount of forest harvesting and continuously improved the ecological environment. In order to meet the needs of socialist modernization, the internal production structure of the forestry system should be gradually adjusted so as to promote the steady growth of forest resources so as to meet the people’s ever-increasing material and cultural needs. The province has a forest area, from less than 2 million ha in the early days of the founding of the PRC to more than 4 million ha, an increase of more than 60,000 ha per year on average.
