周口店遗址位于北京西南的西山脚下,是一处更新世古人类遗址中内涵最丰富、材料最齐全和最有科研价值的遗址。早在70万年前,勤劳和智慧的祖先在这里繁衍生息。周口店遗址共发现27处化石地点,其中有四类不同时期的古人类化石,近百种动物化石以及丰富的用火遗迹,出土近十万件石器。面对大量藏品,根据其种类、特点和保存环境的不同,周口店遗址博物馆按照文物保管程序,在实际工作中积极探索,建立了适合本馆藏品管理工作的保管方法。
Zhoukoudian site is located at the foot of the Western Mountain in the southwest of Beijing. It is a site of the Pleistocene ancient human ruins with the most abundant materials, the most complete materials and the most scientific value. As early as 700,000 years ago, hard-working and wise ancestors flourished here. Zhoukoudian site found a total of 27 fossil sites, of which there are four different periods of ancient human fossils, nearly a hundred kinds of animal fossils and rich traces of fire, unearthed nearly 100,000 pieces of stone. Faced with a large number of collections, according to the different types, characteristics and preservation environment, Zhoukoudian Museum, in accordance with the preservation procedures of cultural relics, actively explored in practical work and established a safekeeping method suitable for the collection management of its own library.
