Raytheon has successfully switched its technology to military phased array antennas to Iridium, a commercial global private satellite communications system developed by Motorota’s Satellite Development Agency. Under a $ 300 million sub-contract, Raytheon will produce the main antenna for the satellite network. The satellite network consists of 66 Low Earth Orbit Iridium satellites, providing global paging and data services through hand-held user equipment and direct telephone communications. The satellite mission antenna complete set of equipment will consist of three patch antennas, each measuring 86 cm x 188 cm, providing a direct link between the satellite and system users.
