位于美国科罗拉多州小城波尔德(Boulder)的美国国家大气研究中心(NCAR)始建于1960年。主建筑选址在洛基山主脉上的一座小山上,是著名建筑大师贝聿铭先生精心设计的。其风格、色彩与整个洛基山浑然一体,完美和谐,正如有人对其发出的赞美:“这并非是一座山上的建筑,而是属于山的。”NCAR楼前相对平坦的场地上,修建了若干条弯曲的人行小路,小路遇到原生树木时都要规避,绕树而过。当年的建设者显然是有意设计的,不希望因为修路而毁坏了山上的原始风貌,对大自然表现出了一份特有的尊
