The 1997 financial crisis hit the entire perfume industry in Asia. Consumers who have always favored high-end products have given up their original choices one after another, and the industry has just ended its two-year sustained growth. According to data provided by the Euromonitor, sales of perfumes in the Asia Pacific region in 2000 were $ 1,628 million. Although this increased from the amount of $ 1,500.7 million in 1999, it is still not an encouraging result compared to the sales peak of $ 1,715.4 million in 1996. Although consumer confidence has begun to pick up, many seem more willing to choose to stay on the sidelines amid concerns that the global recession will deteriorate further.
