1 Introduction to the Project A 20,000 t vertical silo project consists of a vertical silo and a working tower (see Figure 1). The vertical silo consists of 18 cylindrical silos that are 37.5m high; they are connected to one another as a unitary structure. From the Yangtze River, only the outer groundwater is restricted by the river water. In 1993, an engineering geology survey was carried out. The foundation of the vertical silo library was composed of the following upper layers: 1 is plain fill; the filling time is generally within 5 years.
