古希腊剧场是露天的。观众席在斜坡上,形如展开的折扇。长条石凳上划定每位观众应占的地位。除前排外,所有的座位都没有背靠和手靠。前排是为祭司和显贵保留的座位。前排前面是一个圆场(旧称“歌舞场”),公元前五世纪及四世纪上半叶的歌队和演员都在这圆场上表演,舞台是公元前四世纪后半叶以后才兴起的。圆场旁边是“换装处建筑”(旧称“舞台建筑”),与观众席相对,与最高排的座位等高,这样才能把声音关住。现存的希腊剧场的“换装处建筑”均已坍塌,但声音效果依然很好。据
