The Meta-foil EL technology (ultra-foil electroluminescence technology) developed by Novate electro-luminescen (Santa Clara, CA) was the first to incorporate a flexible circuit for the integration of illuminated keyboards and LCD backlit displays. The technology promises to replace the traditional keyboard and LED lighting luminaire combination of many components with a single 1.5mm thick device. With a much reduced number of components, it is expected to reduce costs by 25%. This technology, in turn, can be mass-produced in a roll-to-roll manner and can be flexibly adjusted in scale.
