自80年代中期以来,有不少专家学者对宁波港的功能和作用进行了大量的研究工作。1985年初,国家经委综合运输研究所对宁波港调查后,确定了宁波港的三大功能,即:(1)全国性远洋(如3000海里以上)大宗散货、木材、国际集装箱等外贸物资的中转港;(2)上海经济区的深水港,可以分担部分在上海港中转的沿海及长江中下游的进出口物资;(3)直接为浙江省及宁波市的经济服务。实际上,第二、第三个功能是指服务的区域范围,即港口的腹地,而不能作为港口的功能。它们与第一个港口功能有较大范围的重叠。1988年10月,交通部和浙江省人民政府“关于宁波港北仑港区总体布局规划的批复”中指出,北仑港区的功能为:(1)为宁波市经济开发和临海区域外向型经济发展服务;(2)为浙江省和浙赣、杭宣铁路沿线地区内、外贸运输服务;(3)为上海经济区和长江中下游等大宗散货中转运输服
Since the mid-1980s, many experts and scholars have done a great deal of research on the functions and functions of Ningbo Port.
