出生于马来亚的黄景棠是清末广东绅商的代表人物之一,他积极参与地方政治,对办学、办报、慈善事业以及组织商人团体等事项都表现出很高的热情。在1906年粤路公司的创办和1911年广东的保路运动中,黄景棠都是关键人物。黄景棠的活动,既反映出当日广东商界、乃至中国商界进步的一面,也反映出这个群体的局限。
Born in Malaya, Huang Jingtang was one of the representatives of the gentry in Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty. He actively participated in local politics and showed great enthusiasm for running schools, running newspapers, charity and organizing business people’s associations. Huang Jingtang was the key figure in the founding of Guangdong Road Company in 1906 and the road maintenance in Guangdong in 1911. The activity of Huang Jingtang reflects both the progress of the business community in Guangdong and even the business community in China on that day and the limitations of this group.
