Due to the strong growth in Latin America’s growing season, combined with the restoration of normal climatic conditions in Europe, Syngenta’s pesticide sales increased by 11% to US$3.742 billion in the first half of 2004. If at a constant exchange rate, sales increase by 6%, this increase is consistent with the overall recovery of the global pesticide market. The company’s EBITDA increased by 14% to 1.246 billion U.S. dollars, and its gross profit margin was 54.7%, compared with 53.4% in the same period last year.
