Needless to say, the 400-meter race is the hardest race in track and field and requires that athletes race their best in nearly a quarter-mile. Therefore, any athletes engaged in this sport must have a good physical and tenacious will of quality. Every 400-meter runner has its own technical characteristics and coaches should avoid changing the technology they have developed over the years. The best example of this is Michael Johnson, the 400-meter runner-up winner of the 1996 Olympics, who trains and competes in an irregular running technique and makes great achievements. So it is worthless to change this technical feature. However, coaches should let athletes know how to use the skills they already have in the race to relax - that is, to maintain a graceful, fluid stride.
