1941年1月,国民党反动派悍然发动皖南事变,公然宣布取消新四军番号.盘踞在大别山地区重镇安徽省立煌县桂系集团军司令李品先,纠集鄂东反共头子游击总指挥程汝怀,疯狂地进攻我新四军鄂豫边区纵队.李先念司令派遣纵队参谋长江岳洪率领一团支援兄弟部队,坚持(黄)陂、(黄)安南抗日根据地.我当时是一团卫生队看护长,兼支部组织委员和军人俱乐部主任.
