To assess the levels of lipids and lipoproteins in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and to compare these results with those of weight-matched controls, and to describe the relationship between these findings and insulin secretion and activity as well as the history of menstruation. The glucose tolerance, plasma lipids, and lipoproteins were examined in 19 patients with lean and 55 obese patients with PCO and compared with the test results in 22 women who were lean and 15 obese controls.
