毛果皂荚Gleditsia vestia Chum et HowSp nov. 是我国独有的世界稀有树种,同时也是优良的速生用材树种。我国目前只在湘中衡山广济寺附近的天然次生林中发现两株老树,一株已衰老。毛果皂荚又名绒毛皂荚,属苏木科,落叶乔木,树干圆满通直。稀生棘刺,幼树较多,后渐脱落,刺扁平粗大,鹿角状,具短分叉。小枝“之”字形、绿色、有光泽。长叶簇生,偶数羽状复叶,有7-9对小叶,近对生,小叶窄椭圆形或卵状披针形,基部歪斜,叶纸质,小叶柄密生柔毛。花生于短枝叶腋,穗状花序,花杂性同株或单性异株。荚果旋曲,软
