跨文化逆向适应性是根据跨文化适应性的概念提出来的。在进行跨文化交际的过程中,人们往往更加关注外国人对主流文化的适应,而却很少会将注意力放在主流文化中的人对外国人的逆向适应上。事实上,主流文化中的人在进行跨文化交际时确实具有逆向适应的倾向,这种倾向会受到学历和与外国人接触频率的影响。同时,在交际遇到障碍时他们也会积极地采取策略使交谈持续下去。

In the process of intercultural communication, people tend to pay more attention to the adaptation of foreigners to the mainstream culture, but seldom pay attention to the adverse adaptation of foreigners by the mainstream culture. In fact, people in mainstream culture do have a tendency to adapt negatively to intercultural communication, a tendency that is influenced by both academic qualifications and frequency of contact with foreigners.
