鸡窝草又名荩草(见图)。分布广泛,是饲用价值高,适口性强,而且利用时间长的一种优良牧草。一、形态与习性鸡窝草学名为Arthraxon hispidus(Thunb) Makino。是禾本科荩草属一年生草本植物。秆细弱,下部于地上匍匐,节上长须根,上部向上倾斜或直立,植株高30厘米至50厘米左右。叶片为卵形或披针形,长3厘米至4厘米,呈绿色,光滑柔软无毛,叶缘基部有睫毛,叶鞘一般和叶片等长,上密生白色绒毛,花为总状花序,3个至10多个,长4匣米至6厘米,小穗有芒。
