The “Zhou Hongqing incident” that took place at the end of 1963 triggered a crisis in the relations between Taiwan and Japan. In this incident, Japan, despite the pressure of the Taiwan authorities, insisted that Zhou Hongqing be allowed to return to the mainland. To Taiwan, this is a serious act of negligence on the part of Japan’s pro-China continent. Therefore, Japan has taken drastic retaliatory measures against Japan and intensified the conflicts between Taiwan and Japan once it was on the verge of “breaking diplomatic relations.” As an ally between Taiwan and Japan, the United States used the “embassy” stationed in Taiwan to mediate with the Taiwan authorities and kept exerting pressure on it. U.S. Secretary of State Rusk personally visited Japan and visited Taiwan, and spare no efforts to resolve the contradiction between the two sides. In the end, with the adjustment of the United States, both Taiwan and Japan gave one step and thus passed this “diplomatic” crisis. In solving the entire incident, the important role of the United States must not be underestimated. At the same time, the strategic intentions of the United States in the Far East are also reflected most vividly.
