在现代社会中,人们生产和生活活动都离不开汽车。在工业发达的国家里平均几个人就有一辆汽车。近一、二十年来,我国汽车增长速度也是较快的。近几年,每年增加汽车约20万辆左右。据调查浙江省有机动车88,780辆,其中汽车29415辆。若每辆汽车一年用油量按6吨计算,(专业运输车12吨),则全年用油量为18万吨,拖拉机等每辆一年用油量按6吨计算,年用油为24万吨。今年我省汽车又增加了4500辆左右,柴油机具增加70万马力。因此,今后供油量还要继续增加。总之,汽车运输是石油消费的一个大户。如何降低汽车的油耗,不仅能有效地利用能源、缓和石油供需紧张的局面,从而确保国民经济稳步发展,而且又可碱少环境污染。
