目前在美国用于井下的内燃机大约有5000台,其中煤矿井下使用的近500台。井下使用内燃机会不会对矿工健康产生危害?美国国家职业安全与健康研究所(NIOSH)和环境保护机构(EPA)认为内燃机废气不会导致矿工致癌,而且对安全生产更为有利。其理由是: 1.对包括铁路工人、汽车工人、司机、铁矿、煤矿、钾碱矿、天然碱矿的井下矿工、特别是对在内燃机排气环境中工作三十年之久的矿工的调查,证明不存在因内燃机废气而致癌的情况,对在内燃机排气环境中工作十五年的矿工调查,没有发现急性或慢性肺功能障碍。 2.通过对处在内燃机废气环境中的动物的研究,也表明不存在致癌的危害。 3.通过由美国政府工业卫生会议确定的“入口限制评定法”(TLV′S)。测定内燃机排气环境中的乙醛、碳氢化合物、二氧化碳、一氧化碳、羧酸、环乙烷、二氧化氮、氧及硫酸盐等
