取明矾(即民用生矾)10斤,碱(即民用碱)7斤,两者研成粉末(越细越好,粗则易于沉淀而使化学反应不完全)。混和,置于大水缸中,取洁净井水或河水,加满一缸(不要太满),用木棍频频搅拌,立即起化学反应(缸里会出现淅淅之声,同时缸里从下向上泛起一层细小气泡则为佳),停隔半天时间,即见分层:下层即氢氧化铝,上层是澄清的味咸涩的水。把这咸涩的水用虹吸方法吸出弃去(即换水)。下层沉淀的氢氧化铝,仍留存原缸里,再用上法反复换清水十余次,至清水无咸涩味为度。
