MWD todayEastman Whipstock, Inc.’s Pilot tool employs a sole-noid-operated valve to generate negative, or low pres-sure, pulses in the mud stream. The valve, that is nor-mally closed, opens to bypass drilling fluid from the toolbore to the annulus.Power for the downhole portion of the tool is pro-vided by a turbine-driven alternator.
