Shanghai Automotive Industry (Group) Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the head office) is a large group company that owns 13 state-owned enterprises, 12 joint ventures and 5 specialized companies and integrates production, sales and finance. Its main products include Santana Cars, happiness licensing motorcycle, Shanghai 50 tractors and 15T trucks. In 1996, the sales revenue of the parent company increased by 22% over the same period of previous year; the total profit increased by 22.1% over the previous year; and the major economic indicators ranked among the best in the country. The achievement of these achievements mainly depends on the support of higher authorities and all walks of life to help the 65,000 employees of the head office work hard.
