The separation of ceremony and law began in the Spring and Autumn Period. In Chinese traditional culture, the content of ceremony is very rich. It is not only the rules and rites in social life, but also includes the state political system and laws. As one of the contents contained in courtesy since ancient times, “law” is not the historical process and unique law that has always been separate from courtesy. This article begins with “Zuo Zhuan”. By analyzing historical data and social background in the Spring and Autumn Period, attempts to prove the separation of the ceremony and the law begin with the Spring and Autumn Period by way of example, and are inextricably linked with the social background at that time.
