本世纪以来,地震愈显频繁,5.5级以上地震连年不断,造成的生命、财产损失,难以估量。我国七十年代有唐山大地震,继而九十年代又发生了张北地震。1964年美国阿拉斯加州的安克雷奇曾发生过七级大地震,继而引发大火,损失惨重。印度大地震造成十万人死亡。本世纪中叶,美国加利福尼亚大地震,毁坏多座桥梁和高速公路,断电断水,白天空中灰蒙蒙的,晚上,人们在黑暗中摸索,胆颤心惊,景象十分凄惨。
Since the beginning of this century, earthquakes have become more frequent and earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 and above have been going on year after year, resulting in life and property losses that are hard to measure. In the seventies of our country there was the Tangshan Earthquake, followed by the Zhangbei earthquake in the 1990s. In 1964, Anchorage, Alaska, United States, had a magnitude-seven earthquake that triggered a big fire and suffered heavy losses. Hundreds of thousands were killed in a major earthquake in India.
