科技进步,经济繁荣和社会发展,从根本上说都取决于劳动者素质的提高和大量合格人才的培养。学校是培养优秀人才的基地。高等院校更是经济发达部门所需高、精、尖人才的源头。因此,搞好高等教育是教育事业发展的关键,旧有的教育体系、教育制度日益显露出其弊端。教育改革势在必行。外语教学做为高校重要学科之一,首当其冲受到市场经济、对外开放、形势的挑战,对外语教育提出了新的要求。许多外语院校采取了增设国家经济建设急需的专业和应用型课程的方式,还有不少综合大学及师范类院校的外语系采取了主、副修制,主修外语,副修经济、贸易、金融及旅游、饭店管理等有关应用课程,在实现复合型人才这一伟大构想上迈出了可喜的一步,但是在培养这种复合型新人才的过程环节中普遍存在着一种错误认识:外语本身不是专业,只是一种工具,外语必须有个载体,必须依附在一个专业上,这种错误观点
