弥渡县地处云南高原西部、大理州东南部,东与祥云、南华县接壤,南与景东、南涧县毗邻,西靠巍山县,北连大理市。交通便利,古称“六诏咽喉”。县城弥城镇距省会昆明市332公里,距州府下关61公里,国道214线、320线交汇境内,广大铁路、昆瑞高速公路和祥临高速公路穿境而过。全县气候温和,有着“天气浑如三月里,风花不断四时春”之美誉,属中亚热带季风气候区,光照充足、土壤肥沃、物产丰饶,自古以来就有“滇西粮仓”和“蔬菜王国”
