从1958年9月13日投产至今,炼铁厂走过起步、发展、壮大的辉煌历程,产铁近2亿吨。2006年以来,炼铁厂大型高炉利用系数在国内同类型高炉中雄居榜首,处于世界领先地位;五号高炉大修开炉仅3天,利用系数就达2.1吨/立方米·天,创开炉达产最快的世界纪录。1958年9月13日下午3点25分,毛泽东同志健步登上一号高炉,笑看新中国第一座现代化特大高炉出铁的全过程。
