Objective: To investigate the relationship between P wave dispersion (Pd) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) in patients with essential hypertension. Methods: 420 cases of essential hypertension were observed and divided into two groups of 210 cases. The patients were complicated with PAF (disease group) and the patients without PAF (control group). The two groups of maximum P-wave time limit (Pmax), Pd were measured for analysis and comparison. Results: Pmax was significantly higher in group I than in group [(118.24 ± 11.04) ms vs (105 ± 9.6) ms, P <0.05], and in Pd group was significantly higher than that in group [(48.02 ± 10.29) ms vs (34.82 ± 8.66) ms, P <0.05]. Conclusion: Pmax and Pd can be used as simple ECG indicators for predicting the occurrence of PAF in patients with essential hypertension.
