《西学东渐记》是容闳(字达萌,号纯甫)1909 年在美国写成并出版的一部自传,原文是英文,书名为My Life in China and America,1915年,徐风石和恽铁樵把它翻译成中文,由商务印书馆出版。后来,又有各种译名的版本出现。容闳是中国最早毕业于美国著名大学的留学生,被称为“中国留学第一人”;由于容闳一生的追求和主要成就即促成一百二十名幼童赴美留学, 所以容闳又有“近代中国留学生之父”的美誉。《西学东渐记》一书主要反映的就是容闳一生的这个追求和事业,全书充满了他对留学教育事业的无比热爱,洋溢着他对中美文化交流与融合的无限热情。
