The data in this preface is the result of a collaborative study between the U.S. Underground Space Center and the American Planning Association. The University of Minnesota has long been interested in this research because it reflects the potential of cities to use underground space. The benefits of underground space entering the market and benefiting society have far exceeded that of the past three or four years. Many cities regard the development of underground public facilities as an auxiliary measure to expand and modernize cities. Some cities use the underground as a precious resource to develop, which provides information and plans for optimal use of the city’s underground levels.
