London is a poem which is written by William Blake, published in Songs of Experience in 1794. It is one of the poems in Songs of Experience. it does not have a corresponding poem in Songs of Innocence. This paper applies the theory of Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics to carry out a contrastive analysis of London and its Chinese translation from the perspective of transitivity of experimental meta-function.It concludes that systemic functional linguistics plays a guiding role in translating English poetry into Chinese. It is a standard which can be used to judge the translation too.
