Report the ultrastructure of guinea pig pineal gland, which consists of low-density parenchymal cells with occasional glioblast, vascular and neurological components. Parenchymal cells have many protrusions, these terminals often in the perivascular space, and contains transparent vesicles and dense core vesicles. The parenchyma cells show abundant mitochondria and apparent smooth endoplasmic reticulum, as well as rough endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi, microtubules and microfilaments. Pineal capillaries are lined with thick, window-free endothelial cells. At the same time, this paper discusses the interspecific differences in pineal ultrastructure.
