Using the vapor recompression system developed by Courtaulds Research, energy savings of 640 kwh are achieved per 1 to 3 drops of evaporation compared to single-effect evaporation. This energy saving requirement is achieved by a plastic heat exchanger with a large heat transfer surface area. This heat exchanger temperature difference is small, so the use of compressors can be driven low power.
