查尔斯·金斯利(Charles King sley,1819~1875),英国怍家、诗人、历史学家,代表怍有历史小说《希帕蒂亚》(Hypatia)、《向西去》(Westward Ho!)等,儿童小说《如何夫人和为何小姐》(Madam How and Lady Why)、《水孩子》(The Water Babies)等。《水孩子》讲述扫烟囱的小男孩汤姆(Tom)的成长故事。汤姆没有双亲,自小饱受师父格林姆斯(Grimes)的虐待,在一场误会之后,他逃到了旺谷。在仙女的暗中帮助下,他变成了一个水孩子,经历了种种冒险和考验之后成长为真正的男子汉。
