In early June, the oil spill in Penglai 19-3 oil field in Bohai Bay, the largest offshore oil and gas field in China, occurred. On July 1, CNOOC, the owner of the oilfield, formally responded to the incident of crude oil leakage at sea for the first time, saying the leakage point has been brought under control. July 6 State Oceanic Administration circular on the oil spill at this offshore oilfield showed that the oil spill pollution was mainly concentrated in the sea area around the oilfield and in the northwestern sea area, of which 840 were of inferior seawater area of 840 square kilometers. Although the accident operator ConocoPhillips China Co., Ltd. has publicly apologized for the incident under the pressure of public opinion, the oil major shareholder CNOOC also agreed to share the economic responsibility. However, this oil spill incident has brought a series of serious environmental problems to the Bohai Bay . Chinese petroleum enterprises should learn from them and adopt scientific and reasonable means to avoid the recurrence of similar accidents as much as possible.
