微生物可分为病原性和非病原性两类。仅病原菌存在并不能致病,机体防御能力是重要的;一些人感冒鼻涕涟涟时其同伴安然无恙就是很好的例证。微生物又可分为寄生性和非寄生性两类。机体抵抗能力下降时两类微生物都可致病。住院病人经疾病消耗、药物和放射副作用的影响等,抵抗力多有下降。此时若遇到不曾感染过的病菌、缺乏特异性免疫力则更易受侵袭。总之非特异性及特异性免疫力低下使住院患者易于再次感染。
