我祖父醇贤亲王奕譞虽然在清同治、光绪年间曾显赫一时,但因为与慈禧、光绪之间君臣、父子的错综复杂关系,非常难处,是以每每常怀戒惧之心,待人接物处处谨小慎微、谦虚退让。如将日常起居书斋额曰“迟省斋”,在妙高峯所建别墅题名为“退潜别墅”。为了自儆并诫勉儿孙,奕譞曾仿制过一件周代“欹器”(见本刊第25期),同时还制有一件刻有御制诗铭的铜镜一方,均陈设在太平湖醇亲王府的九思堂内。光绪二十年,这两件文物迁移到什刹后海北河沿醇亲王府的宝翰堂内。我父亲戴沣一直把这两件铜器视为“传家
