1962年,周恩来在广州为知识分子“脱帽加冕”。“脱帽”,就是摘棹“资产阶级知识分子”这顶帽子;“加冕”,就是冠以“劳动人民的知识分子”这个称号。这是周恩来为纠正对待知识分子问题的“左”的偏差所作的又一次努力。当年消息传出后,周谷城先生曾讲过一段肺腑之言。他说:“知识分子过去认为自己是资产阶级知识分子,觉得自己是被改造的,始终是作客的思想,积极性还没有发挥出来。”如今“得到一个光荣称号,是劳动人民了,对这一点特别高兴。我对这一点也很兴奋。我觉得只要有这些感觉,精神就活跃起来了。”周谷城先生的话,代表着一代知识分子的心声。它表明,周恩来为知识分子“脱帽加冕”,换来的是几百万颗忠于祖国、忠于人民事业的炽热的心。廖心文同志就50年代末至60年代初周恩来在知识分子问题上纠“左”的艰辛路程写了一篇专文,作了详尽论述。本刊限于篇幅,选刊其中的一节,以飨读者。
