I originally knew that the name “Rini” was in the early 1940s. I was sixteen or seventeen at that time. I was very interested in Turgenev’s novel published by Cultural Life Publishing House, in which “The House of Aristocracy” and “Eve” were translated by Roni. Like so many people, I take it for granted that the translator is a woman. Then I read a collection of digests signed by “Rini”, and I can not remember which of his three essays Dusk Contribution, Eagle Song and White Night , But it reveals the sad or almost desolate atmosphere has deeply touched my heart. From some narrative point of view, I feel he will not be a woman. This “mystery” was only revealed to me when I met him in 1954.
